If you love the sights of the Smoky Mountains, just wait until you see it during the fall! The usual shades of green give way to reds, oranges and yellows as the leaves signal the changing of the seasons. If you have plans to visit during the fall, you’ll have plenty of exciting things to do. Get ready to make the most of your autumn visit! Here are 5 things to do during fall in the Smokies:

1. Take a Hike

Why not see the leaves up close and personal? A hike through the rolling hills of the Smokies gives you a chance to see the colors in all their glory. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to 150 hiking trails, so you’ll have no trouble finding an adventure to take on. The options range from short and easy to lengthy and strenuous. Even better, go for a hike on a trail that leads to a waterfall, like Laurel Falls or Grotto Falls.

Some of the top scenic drives include Cades Cove Loop Road, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, Foothills Parkway and Newfound Gap Road.

3. Attend a Seasonal Event

The fall is a busy time of the year in the Smokies with all kinds of special seasonal events and festivals. Attending one is a great way to experience the culture of the Smoky Mountains, mixed with unique experiences and fun for all! Dollywood’s Harvest Festival, Anakeesta’s Bear-Varian Fall Festival, the Fall Festival at Ober Mountain and a number of different Pigeon Forge car shows, including the Fall Rod Run, provide fun for all ages!
